Are you a Reality Show TV fan?
To be honest, I’d rather read, network, or just about anything else than watch TV. But, I figured since Reality Shows are a big hit and my followers are interested in the publishing procedures, what a better way to present the ‘stages of publication’ than to give you….
Jo-Anne Vandermeulen’s Reality Email (okay, I just made-up this term so don’t go looking in the dictionary for it…lol)
My editor and publisher, Nancy Williams, connected. Below are blocks of conversation from our emails. You like to watch Reality Shows? You may also enjoy reading Reality Emails. And heck, if you’d rather read than watch TV, this might be just what you’re looking for as entertainment.
Jo-Anne Vandermeulen’s Reality Email - #1
Nancy: I have ordered ISBN numbers, and we have worked on the back cover, so I would like to get that finished up, too. I have to get this book finished because I’m ready to choke Josh at this point! LOL
Jo-Anne: I had to laugh when you said you’re ready to choke Josh. Right on! I’ve created characters that are alive…from the first page, the reader is living the scene, established their own opinions, and has ‘real’ feelings and emotions about the characters. Exactly what I wanted.
Jo-Anne: Twists and ploy with words. I want the reader to work for complete contextual understanding. I treat them with intelligence. For the rest of the story, the reader will be on guard—knowing that they have to ‘think’ while reading rather than making the usual correct assumptions as so many authors do when they ‘feed’ their readers.
Nancy: You are very gifted at creating emotional responses to your characters. Very, very good!
Nancy: There is something else that I have not talked to you about that I need to before I start laying out all of the book, and that is the size of the book. I am used to making paperbacks 6” x 9. I should give you the option of choosing either a 6” x 9” or a 5” x 8”. The newsletter takes about 4 months from the time the book is listed with Ingram. Also, when the book is ready to print, for orders being shipped to customer or publisher, it takes 3 days from submission to proof. And I believe it is 3 days once the proof is approved, but I’m not 100% sure of the latter. Need to check on it. If it’s an order through Ingram, it takes only one day.
Interesting Facts:
“80% fiction writers sell their books from word-of-mouth”
So it’s time for me as a fiction writers to come out from my shell and spread the word. I need to try and join 30 some high ranking sites and create relationships. These connections are so important. It will be these friends who will help sell my book through ‘Viral Promotion’.
“Give your reader stuff”
I give my readers content. I give away marketing tips. I give my support to writers by either solving their problems or directing them into the direction they need to go. I give my readers encouragement. What do you give away? What can you do for your friends?
“Get ‘in’ on high traffic sites”
Provide content to sites such as Masher.com and Alexa. VERY important to link their site with mine. Share their high traffic audience with me. Now we’re talk’n. If I continue to provide great content posts and link with high traffic sites, the flow of traffic will connect with me.
